Matthew “Guinness and Geishas” Greeson and I (Deagle) arrived around 9:00 a.m. at Strategy Plus on October 25th, one hour after the “Halloween Horror VI-Darkened Days-Vampire Attack!” game had started.  Accompanying us were our friends Connor, Bernardo, Louis, and George.  As we set up our gear we set out to find other TAPs attending the game.  Our search turned out unsuccessful so we used the Red Raiders’ camp as our camp.   We would be joining the rest of the ERSA as a part of the Blue team’s “Humans”, against the Red “Vampires”.

After inserting we found our way through the brush into the village and met up with one of our team generals, “Exo”, who had us dig in at a village to defend from the Red team moving up the road to us.   We pulled back for a moment and to my surprise the Red team did not immediately move up.  They waited a minute first, which by then allowed all of us to dig in nicely into the village.  As the first few Red team players staggered to the top of the road in view of the town we started to open fire.  Out of boredom I made a quick charge into view of their team, with a 2 inch tree as my cover, and as I started to run into cover to my right I slipped and received 3 shots to the head, 2 to the chest, and 2 more to the legs before I was able to pull myself into cover.  I was amazed when the ref behind me advanced to my location and told me to stay down as he wiped the paint off of me and told me to keep fighting.  It was a nice gesture but ultimately futile as I ran out of air a few moments later.

As I left the field to return to the Red Raiders camp, I rested there while my friends began to either get shot, run out of paintballs, or run out of air.  When we began to re-insert I began to have gun issues as my gun would only fire a few rounds before de-cocking.  Before I had noticed my gun was broken a gas line at the nitro filling station had ruptured, creating a small but loud gas explosion inside the trailer where the nitro was stored.  I stayed back while the others inserted as I tried to fix my gun with the help of a ref.  He later referred me to another person who referred me to another person, which led me to about 4 people until I found someone to fix my gun.  After fixing my gun I returned to the Red Raiders camp to await the return of others so I could re-insert with them.

We joined forces with Tackleberry from E.O.D. and NJHusker from the Red Raiders.  We continued through areas 3, 7, and 8 and captured all of them without breaking a sweat or encountering any Red team players.  After a painstaking wait at area 7 with NJHusker and a few others we finally were able to move up to area 4 for the final battle in which we seemed to have the upper hand.  As I dug in at a tree sitting at the edge of the cliff I was watching Red team players advancing through the valley, well out of my range.  All of us started to dig in awaiting the advancement of the Red team.  As they began to get in range of us they moved up through the fort and up a road, and a few others and I took fire from guys shooting up at the cliff edge we were at.  We had head winds which carried Red team paintballs farther than normal, which aided them in eliminating two of our team members.   As the Red team was advancing on the town we continued to hold them back despite all their efforts.  Tackleberry surprisingly enough dove into cover and ended up filling his barrel with dirt and broke his stock right off his gun.

As the ref s called the end of the game, they had trouble getting a few guys to stop firing, but managed to stop them after a minute of yelling “cease fire” at them.  I walked back to the staging area with one of the refs I had become friends with while trying to get my gun fixed, and I returned to the Red Raiders camp where I found G&G and our friends already packing their gear.  It was a great game with Humans victorious over the Vampires under the leadership of Barney.

When we entered the field we immediately moved up to a nearby forward base and joined Stiffmeister of the Loaded Crows.  I had my friend Connor take position up on a nearby hill and got two others to go forward and watch for enemies.  After a short while Stiffmeister asked me to try and take an enemy who was coming over the ridge, and while doing so I was shot in the leg.  After returning to the field I couldn’t find anyone, so I went off on my own and then I decided to go back and see if Connor was still on the hill.  At the top I joined a Loaded Crows member in fending off the few oncoming enemies.  Then Connor appeared and told me he and a few others were falling back.  A few moments later the Loaded Crow and I were the only ones still defending the hill.  Wouldn’t you know, a Red player came up right behind us and shot me a couple of times in the side while I was fumbling with one of my pods.  A small kid came up and shot at the Red player once or twice but he didn’t go out.  At the time I was still painfully fumbling when I called the ref to paint check the enemy and instead, he checked me!  After telling him I knew I was out I got him to check the other guy.  Luckily the ref pulled him out before he got my companion although seconds later some other guy lit us both up.

I decided to join “Scarecrow” and John (I thinks that’s his name) of the Red Raiders, and we moved around the enemy lines and captured a base (I believe it was 6).  We retreated and took up positions in a nearby bunker.  After repulsing a few wandering Red players, we began to take fire from the cliff top to our right.  We were reinforced by a few of my friends and “Hustla”, not to mention a couple of other humans.  We held that position for well over an hour and a half before we were overrun leaving only “Scarecrow”, John and I to return some Vampire blood to Barney.  After taking a quick lunch break, I returned to the field with the two of them where were fought for the original town.  Then after defeating Red we returned to the town for the final battle.  I had Ryan fire on the cliff where “Scarecrow”, John and I were, then he started firing on the enemy fort down the hill.  The three of us moved down the hill and fended off a small group of Red players, which were actually coming from the bunker we had recently taken shelter in.  We moved up the hill where we decided to take the fort with Tackleberry.  In the process I was shot cleanly in the head, but not before witnessing Tackleberry take a dive and snap off his marker’s stock (I feel for you man).  Instead of leaving the field I spent the last couple of minutes with our General.  At the time a ref actually wiped down my head and said I could go back and fight but I thought that would be wrong so I just hung around.

TAPs awarded the Purple Target to Deagle for all the hits he took on his early morning dash, and me the Red Crosshair for helping the Crows on the hill.  Thanks for reading and have a good one.  And thanks to all the ERSA who attended!
